【潔西家】過去進行式與過去完成進行式的不同

為什麼會有在美國的學生想上潔西的文法課,在美國上不就得了,學生問?

大家會覺得奇怪嗎?潔西一點都不會覺得哪裡怪,因為很多年前就有過了啊,先前還有學生在美國念語言學校,寒假回來台灣,一個星期排五天衝刺文法。

通常是比較需要進階文法的學生,比較難的文法,用中文講學生可能都弄不太清楚了,想想看,在美國,老師用英文解釋英文文法,程度不夠好的聽不懂,程度好的有時候也可能會有點吃力,遇到比較難的文法或者解釋得沒有那麼清楚的時候就腦袋都打結了啊!

潔西的學生出國唸書,遇到不懂的,上網查,有時候就會查到潔西的網站,來打一下招呼,哈哈哈。所以潔西都奉勸要出去唸書的先在台灣把文法學好啦。沒學好,再給潔西一年,潔西把文法影片看能不能生出來,生小孩是沒望了啦,影片就難說了喔,超冷今天。

文法不重要,聽得懂就好了,寫信可以溝通就好了?

這要看你是工作求學用的英文還是移民過去日常生活會話,後者的話,的確聽得懂就好了,工作的話溝通是重點,簡潔易懂,不影響語意的錯誤其實都還是可以接受的,因為畢竟我們不是母語使用者。求學你的文法不好,寫作不太容易拿高分,因為老師看不懂的時候分數自然就給低了,跟改手寫一樣,潔西每次都跟學生說寫慢一點字跡工整,你想想,改作文的老師要改幾十篇幾百篇,看到字很亂很醜的,看了就煩,看到工整的字跡,很容易錯誤的地方就忽略了,潔西自己改作文的經驗。

有學生跟潔西說他在家長會用英文發言前會先用英文道歉說不好意思,我的英文不好,潔西跟學生說真的不必要,因為我們不是母語使用者,說得不好是正常的,其他母語使用者應該可以諒解,假如同是非母語的話就更可以能理解了。剛剛剛好看到一個 Ted 演講,也是說要非母語使用者用英文發表演說前不需要為自己的英文不好道歉。大家想想,當你聽到一個外國人可以用中文寫電子郵件給你講工作上的是,甚至發表報告,很厲害了吧,你不會去挑他錯誤啦。

誰會找台灣人的英文的麻煩?台灣人。很遺憾地。學生面試外商公司時,台灣的主管面試時,用英文,學生聽不懂時,主管很不耐煩,也不重複,就說算了,會讓面試的人很受挫。但是遇到主管是外國人聽不懂時,他們會解釋或換字來表達他們想要問的問題,會想要積極弟跟你溝通。今天假如是面試一個外國人他工作能力很好,有工作熱忱,中文差一點大家會很計較嗎?或許也可能要看工作性質,不過可以接受範圍的就可以了啦,不然全世界工程師都沒飯吃了啦!(工程師同學不樣打潔西)

也有學生跟潔西提到他在外商公司,有個從台灣在國中左右就去美國的同事,時態沒學好,待美國超過二十年了吧?有時候在說話的時候時態還是亂用一通,所以有時候大家會聽不懂他在講什麼,大家也知道他時態都亂用,所以時態真的很重要啦,用錯有時候意思會完全不一樣的,會誤解的。

今天學生跟潔西說上星期他們公司找了外師來幫他們上一整天的英文課,主要都是在改錯,有一封電子郵件讓他們改錯,有三十幾個錯誤,說最少要找出二十個錯誤,學生沒找出來,覺得很挫敗,好像自己是個笨蛋。同學不要這麼想啦,其實同學的英文已經算很不錯了,我也可以來寫一封中文信,啊,不用啦,用我發的廢文給外國人改錯,我就不相信他們能改得出來多少,「沒事的,不要太當心。你心太粗了,又寫錯了。他這個花心紅蘿蔔,女朋友一堆。過馬路不要太大心,要右左看。」拜託誰拿給中文好的外國人,看他能改得出幾個。要刁人老師其實都很會的啦,哈哈,不過潔西很善良都有上下文,不像那個老師的句子都是單句,所以根本很難理解。潔西有時候做文法書的改錯題也不知道究竟作者要表達的是什麼啊!

不過那個老師的用意其實潔西可以理解,母語使用者應該是看很多台灣人中式英文或積非成是的錯誤英文,所以想要提醒大家把錯誤的地方改過來。比方說。I am agree you. (X) 這種就是 be 動詞兩千輩子都不會跟動詞原型或過去式一起出現的常犯錯誤。還有介系詞常常多出來或漏掉。I agree with you. 我同意你。agree 後面要介系詞。

這有多重要?其實這種不會影響句子的意思的潔西覺得還好,但是呢因為講師講了很多,所以呢學生也沒法全部記住,也沒給答案,因為想說我都講了吧。潔西的話大概會舉幾個例子,然後教大家要查字典,帶看字典的例句跟如何搭配介系詞。介系詞就是很難的東西啊。給答案,幫大家整理正確的句子。潔西很任性喔,都會去想,恩,這個課我來上的話我要怎麼上,我又不是他們老師啦。

改錯是雙刀刃,不糾正學生的錯誤不行,一直糾正學生會講不出來,因為太挫敗了,所以要拿捏不容易。學了文法之後要用才是最難的,但是首先要先知道才會用對啦。

最近有學生去美國,上過潔西的基礎跟進階文法,當然學生自己很用功,去念語言學校的考試,33題,只錯了一題,可以上最高的一級。好感動,感到非常欣慰。不過潔西一月要開進階文法的課,五個人都招不滿,嗚嗚嗚。

這星期在補習班上完蠻難的完成跟完成進行式後,學生跑來問過去進行式跟過去完成進行式的差別,潔西從來沒想過耶,其實過去完成進行式比較少用,解釋了一下,但是呢因為上到十點了,潔西要去趕末班車了,所以只能大概說一下。

學生很可愛,上完課才跟潔西說,老師這個地方有問題,啊,潔西說錯了,暈倒。下次要上課時說啦,謝謝同學。然後又跟潔西說,老師你講得好快,喔喔,暈倒,難怪上星期問大家都有回應,這星期大家都很安靜,還沒來得及反應過來?這個學生要考雅思出去工作,他上了幾個其他老師的課,他說講文法時沒有人像潔西講這麼快,這麼多「但是你講得比較好,很有條理。」哇,超級感動的。人還是喜歡聽好聽話的,哈哈哈。

吃了糖總是要給點好處,當天回到家累翻睡覺,隔天起床一早就開始研究了好久,看了好幾個網站,把潔西自己覺得比較能接受,覺得有理的一些觀念匯總整理了一下。潔西整理文法重點多半是看文法書這樣整理出來的,看幾本書,弄懂後,用自己的話,有時候借文法書的句子,腦子太笨想不出例子來時。然後大家要記住啦,網路上的網站不能隨便通通相信啦,要看來源,有些潔西也是有點質疑,總之呢自己寫了跟借了一些覺得解釋起來大家比較會懂的例子做了比較,燒了很多腦細胞啊。

這個比較實在有點難,過去進行式比較常用,記清楚,過去完成進行式相對比較少用,但是不是不會用到。沒有考試目的的人,不像潔西這樣愛好文法或是個好奇寶寶的人其實可以不用知道。勇於挑戰的人歡迎參考,有翻譯題目,可以練習一下。

然後,重點來了,這個月因為聖誕節,各式各樣的活動,下個月又過年,所以學生請假比較多,也有請一個月半個月的,潔西覺得都沒問題啦,因為總是家教的話就彼此方便,可以配合的話,但是呢也剛好有幾個一對一結束,突然間覺得,也不是突然,只是更深刻感受到這份工作的不安定性。昨天記帳仔細看了一,發現今年有時候一個月收入只有另外一個月的三分之一,這個月三萬元,下個月可能只有一萬元。很恐怖吧?這麼不穩定的工作。

小月又要到了,過年補習班放兩個星期,潔西也要在家睡大覺,兼職老師也沒有年終,所以過年常常都是支出大於收入。抱怨可,一句起,三句止。其實是要解釋,剛剛潔西突然決定,不知道能教幾年,可能要把講義拿出來賣課程比較實際?所以從此新聞是取於各大新聞網站,所以呢還是會把翻譯的很爛的中英文跟單字一起放上來。

但是呢,以後的文法通通不會在放文字稿在部落格或臉書了,先前有被拿去別人用的潔西都懶得計較了,但是未來覺得因為不知道能活多久,也不知道能教到什麼時候,總是要把自己花辛辛苦苦的時間整理的東西想辦法換錢才是當今世代的生存之道,剛剛在外面寒風吹著,還冷到臨時買暖暖包悟出來的道理,請大家見諒。

內容會跟潔西在劍橋活用英語文法中的講義初級的一樣嗎?本質是一樣的,重複的地方有,但是沒有很多,進階的話有些東西是完全沒講過的,基本上會補充不同的東西,潔西有編了不少新的講義喔,還在繼續加強補充中,這次補習班開班新的文法又繼續編改,潔西就是個愛改講義的老師,雖然不一定越改越好,有時候還越改越難,哈哈哈。

明年吧?應該不會再開文法班的課了。劍橋活用英語文法中級也暫時不會再出影片了吧,明年可能就專心把 Azar這兩本基礎黑色跟進階藍色的文法課程做成影片,這樣有很愛錢嗎?沒辦法,得個新冠真的也蠻多體悟的,體力就是大不如前了,工作又真的太不穩定了。雖然做成影片可能也沒有人要買,總是一條不同的出路。

對了,那個潔西的家教學生假如有請假的同學有看到這裡的話,潔西絕對沒有怪你們的意思喔!大家都會有事,潔西明年或許也可能出國去玩,也可能會請假,先前確診也請假。說來家教這個工作性質本身就是比較自由所以呢不穩定性也相對高,是潔西自己做這份工作需要有的認知跟需要負擔的風險,所以有人可能覺得費用高,但這就是彼此所承擔的責任與義務。上課的同學不要覺得潔西是在抱怨說你們請假喔,真的沒有這個意思,大家互相配合,真的非常感激大家來上課讓潔西有飯吃啦。

今天聽到最近最好的讚美之一是學生說每個星期都很期待上英文課,好開心喔。今天早上還在想說學生上星期說要給學生看他的手錶,不知道記得嗎,有時候有些學生只是說說,像那個說贏了運動彩卷要請潔西喝飲料的學生,根本是欺騙潔西感情,從此失蹤,為了一杯飲料改上線上課程嗎?沒有,他只是個偷懶,想在家一邊寫寫作業的高中生,不要浪費你爸媽辛苦賺的錢啦,好好上,不然要請顧問打電話通知家長了,潔西下了最後通牒。

不過還是有對於自己說的話是很認真的學生,分享給潔西看他收藏美美的手錶,開心。還跟潔西說在蝦皮買東西的技巧,真的是學到好多,教學相長,從學生身上常常可以學到很多東西。上課也大部分都非常的開心,想到明天要上課是很開心的,雖然是星期天早上的課,恩,該睡了吧?今天說太多了。

有時候學生講的話真的不知道要聽幾成,哈哈哈,今天才又在聽如何判斷一個人是不是在說謊,大家都會說謊啦,潔西是儘量不說,尤其是沒必要的時候。潔西看影片時除非超明顯,不然潔西完全看不出來哪一個是說謊的,雖然講者說要看這裡看那裡,啊,放棄啦。

潔西總之就是當個笨蛋比較開心,反正人家講什麼我信什麼,除非是太誇張的馬上可以知道是謊言的,不然就通通相信照單全收,潔西認真覺得要去一一懷疑別人說的話實在太辛苦太累了,等發現被騙時再來生氣不開心就好了,沒發現就算了,發現就認清這個人,也就是這樣,一個人是好人是壞人是他的行為決定的,不是潔西單方面認定的啊!這個歪理有通嗎?

明天要上課,話說哪一天不用上課的,有,下個月很多天都不用上課,其實昨天也只才上一個小時而已啦。總之就是早點睡覺明天不用喝太多咖啡,最近胃潰瘍好蠻多的樣子,比較少不舒服,但是呢喝咖啡大概中杯半杯可以,超過半杯就不舒服了,但是上課沒精神又不行,所以呢就是那天教學生的單字:地雷馬 dilemma。I’m in a dilemma. 或者更口語我們會偷 To be or not to be, that is the question. 的莎翁名言:To dirnk or not to drink, that is the question. 喝還是不喝呢?不能喝啦,快十二點了,睡覺去,晚安晚安!

【潔西家】學生常犯英文錯誤 七、I have a question. 跟 I have one question. 的不同

剛剛突然發現,潔西今天早上的課是8:30-9:30,晚上的課是8:30-10:00,這麼剛好,中間差了十二個小時,潔西在做什麼呢?

早上很不想,但是五點多就起來,只睡了三個多小時,然後就刷手機,一直摸,很悠哉地吃了早餐,忘記了,好誇張,忘記早上做什麼了,就像昨天忘記帶鑰匙,今天還是忘記帶鑰匙。下午去做了瑜伽,回家後本來想去圖書館備課,但算算扣掉搭車時間只剩下三小時,就在家裡鬼混。

潔西真的很有文法魂,準備晚上多益的課的時候,因為時間還蠻多的,所以就慢慢地一題一題看要怎麼樣解釋,遇到覺得很奇怪的就上網查到了解為止,所以今天要上1.5小時的課,潔西花了兩個多小時在準備,哈哈哈。然後學到不少,比方說先前不知道原來 rather than 可以當介系詞,後面加動名詞。又看到 considering ,覺得怎麼樣當現在分詞都不合理,果然查了字典,它居然可以是介系詞,第一次知道。還有 The more …, the more …. 這個句型,前面用現在簡單式,後面用未來式,難不成是副詞子句嗎?查了好幾本文法書又上網找,最後沒有找到,但是找到類似句型,所以可以確定應該就是副詞子句。學不完的英文啊!,

因為今天又有學生請假,所以這星期總共有四個學生請假,突然變得還蠻閒的,明天還想去游泳,但是要早起,因為老弟說潔西曬得很黑了,再曬下去怕嚇到學生。潔西一曬就黑,而且白不回去,所以學生還問過潔西是不是原住民,不是。

然後想到學生昨天問的問題,查了一下,做了影片。做完之後覺得應該要寫一些文字說明給不看影片的人,然後就沒完沒了了,又開始翻文法書,剛好翻到一本有介紹 a/an 跟 one 的用法的,然後就又開始寫講義,順便把練習題都打字下來讓大家做練習,但是很懶,不想再錄影片了,明天再來錄吧。

原本想備課,但是也沒備到,還想改明天上課的講義,想說怎麼樣才可以講得更清楚,因為有個部分學生總是弄不清楚。但是上完課應該馬上就躺平了,所以還有點時間,上課前先發廢文。

今天上瑜伽課的老師潔西沒有很合,剛好有時間就去上了,老師說到一個男同學,說他半年來一次,潔西心想,其實學生不來大概都有各式各樣的理由,潔西桃園的課上了兩個多月了,今天是剛好學生請假,潔西才能來上課,再來又很久都不能來了。最喜歡的老師是星期四中午,但是呢,在中和只有那一堂課,潔西從去年一個一對一一直上到六月,剛好又一個接下去,沒關係,暑假過了應該就可以了?人真的很奇怪,那天才在想星期三是潔西很閒的時候,所以幾乎都只能去上那個老師的課,但是他會兇學生,潔西不是很欣賞,才在想說,以後還是不要上他的課好了,然後,就突然有一個一對一,短期應該不會有機會上了。

今天有非常好消息,潔西的老姐跟老弟先前被告模仿別人的作品,明明就不一樣,真的是莫名其妙,然後還糾纏了三年,今天終於收到不起訴的判決書,真是太好了!但是呢,潔西今天出去牽了四次名字回到家才發現,啊,好丟臉,我的洋裝穿反了,郵差應該沒注意到吧?

上課遇到不同的老師潔西就會認真反省自己,不喜歡的點,自己是不是也在做著同樣的事呢?決定要用方法來讓自己當個更負責的老師。以後每堂線上課都要設10分鐘前的鬧鐘提醒自己,這樣就不會忘記開會議室讓學生找不到人了。

話說回來,今天早上在約按摩師時,剛好她在上課前回,所以沒注意到時候,然後聽的學生的麥克風的聲音才發現,啊,失職的老師,可惡。不過約到明天晚上了,所以耶,明天可以去按摩了。

這幾天比較閒就可以多花一點時間來把課準備得更好,目前有備不完的課等著潔西,所以都是一星期一星期來,有時候忙一點就混到前一天才在趕。想很開了,反正潔西就是做自己,可以互相磨合,但不會勉強。對了,想到這個,潔西真的很討厭人家說謊話,即使是所謂的善意的謊言 white lies ,但是更討厭的事說很容易被潔西拆穿的謊,潔西沒有那麼弱來,有什麼話可以直說。

學生上了一陣子不想上了,有時候會找各式各樣的藉口,真的沒必要,說有事就好了。老師是教練,只能陪你一個程度,通常學生到一定程度都可以不需要老師自學。

完蛋了,想睡了,但是快要上課了,去睡個幾分鐘,有調鬧鐘,應該起得來。祝大家週末愉快!

七、I have a question. 跟 I have one question. 的不同

學生做到下面這一題,答案有 a 跟 one 可以選,大家會選哪一個?答案是 a。為什麼 one 不可以?

Could I ask you __________ question?

因為潔西問了一下 Google 大師,大致上的答案是一般來說我們都會用 a ,這時的 a 跟一般非限定的 a 有點差別的是它是特定的一個,但是你沒有確切說是誰或哪一個,就像 I have a dog. 我有一隻狗。就我家那隻狗啊,但是沒明確地說出是哪一隻狗。I have a sister. 我就只又一個姊姊,所以是特定的那一個,但是呢我沒有說出是誰,這也是 a 的用法的一種。潔西剛剛特別去查文法書,影片上沒有,後面有練習題。

中文會覺得 I have a question. 跟 I have one question. 是一樣的。I have a brother. 跟 I have one brother. 兩個都可以用,但是表達的意思是不一樣的。

一般被問到 Do you have any brothers or sisters? 會回答 I have a brother. 就是上面的用法,是限定的,但沒說出是誰。

那什麼時候會回答 I have one brother. 呢?比方說有人跟潔西說,I heard you have two brothers. 這時候就會說,No, I have (just) one brother. 這時候的 one 要強調的是一個而不是兩個,所以當我們用 one 的時候是用來強調數字,只有一個。

所以當你說 I have a question. 是說你有一個問題,但是你說 I have one question. 你要強調的是我要問的不是兩個問題,三個問題,是一個問題。

所以 Can I ask you ______ question? 最自然的答案釋放 a ,因為沒有上下文,沒有要強調一個的話就會用 a。

最後這句是邏輯問題。又來了,兩個不同學生都覺得這兩個句子有問題。

I might leave work early. I’ll decide tomorrow.

我可能提早走。我明天會決定。

他們的疑問是為什麼今天提早走要明天決定。但是潔西一看就覺得一點都沒問題啊,因為後面已經說的是明天決定,所以前面說的當然是明天可能提早走。但是前面沒有寫時間啊,怎麼會知道是明天?但是後面有寫明天啊,所以就可以推斷出來前面說的是明天。大家覺得這是邏輯問題嗎?

上面的分詞構句看得懂寫得出來嗎?

肚子好餓,寫講義跟做影片花了一個早上,突然間就一點半多多了,暈倒。因為剛好被問到 Having had 的用法,昨天的新聞裡面德國總理第一劑先打 AZ 第二劑再打莫德納,其實就是一件事情發生在另外一件事情前面,說簡單很簡單,但是其實分詞構句是比較進階的文法,很常被學生用錯,尤其在寫作的時候。

潔西先前有寫了現在分詞構句,過去分詞構句,好像沒特別寫過這個完成分詞構句,反正現在也是很閒,就先躺在床上找了一些網頁有比較好的說明的覺得是 British Council 跟 BBC Learning English ,然後就起來整理,整理完錄影片,希望有講得讓大家比較清楚。

A 什麼是分詞構句

分詞構句是一個用動詞的分詞帶領的非獨立子句,多半用在寫作,讓句子不要太複雜,可以簡短表達。

分詞構句的主詞跟主要子句的主詞會是相同的(特殊情形下有例外)

分詞構句可以分為主動與被動

分詞構句可以分為現在分詞構句,過去分詞構句,跟完成分詞構句

分詞構句沒有特定的時態,時態會依據主要子句來決定

分詞構句可能是副詞子句,形容詞子句的縮減,或者是兩個句子的合併

完成分詞構句是用來表示描述的行為在主要子句的行為前發生。完成分詞構句可以是有主動或被動的意思

【潔西家】中階英文文法課程招生中

【潔西家】劍橋活用英語文法 初級 0-1 八大詞性

潔西錄了很多次,總算想盡辦法在十分鐘講完八大詞性,哈哈,廢話補充超多的潔西要講一個小時的八大詞性也不是難事,真的難的就是要想辦法在短時間講的清楚又易懂,盡力了,還是不懂有問題的歡迎問問題。

文法有時候真的很難講得清楚,所以呢先有一個大概的理解,一邊學一邊慢慢就會越來越懂,因為看到越來越多的例子就會更容易理解,但是拜託真的不要鑽牛角尖,似懂非懂有時候雖然覺得蠻難過的,但是呢方法方向正確的話就會越來越能理解的,甚至當你很會說,或你有環境聽多了,習慣用法了,你根本不需要知道哪個是動詞哪個是名詞,你以為中文沒有動詞,名詞,形容詞跟副詞嗎?當然有了,當你說中文的時候你會想哪個是動詞哪個是名詞嗎?不需要,因為你很會說了,不需要思考。

那為什麼學英文要學詞性,恩,因為這是第二外語,你沒有那個環境接受到那麼大量的英語的話,你會想要學一些句型讓你可以以此類推,這時候你就需要學詞性。英文最常見的句型就是主詞+動詞+受詞。主詞跟受詞都一定要是名詞,所以我喜歡蘋果是 I like apples. ,但是呢我喜歡游泳,有人會說 I like swim. (X) 這是錯誤的句子,因為受詞一定要是名詞,所以呢要說 I like swimming. 這才是正確的句子。

他歌唱得很好。He sings well. 不可以說 He sings good. (X) 因為英文要用副詞修飾動詞,well 是副詞修飾動詞 sing。He is a good singer. 他是個好歌手。這邊用 good 是因為 good 是形容詞,用來修飾名詞 singer。這些其實是很基礎的,假如這些詞性弄不清楚的話,說出來寫出來的句子一定是錯誤百出。

多益的閱讀部分的第五大題文法的部分大概有三分之一的題目是考詞性的,所以詞性真的是蠻重要的。知道大家不想看長影片,所以呢把詞性跟明天要說的句型都只花十分鐘講完。超過十分鐘的還刪掉再重錄,所以呢希望大家有空的時候能看一下,有問題的都可以問,潔西有空的時候會盡量回答。

這個是星期天開課的基礎文法課的講義,方便上了課的同學回家後可以複習。那講義講影片都有了為什麼還要去上課?上課是不一樣的,有互動,印象會更深刻,隨時有問題都可以發問,還是有它的好處的啦,還有沒有人要來上課的呢?不住台北的話就,恩,看看影片,有問題一樣可以發問,哈哈。

啊,我的瑜伽,十點多開始做影片,想說十點半可以做完,然後洗澡洗頭做瑜伽,結果現在是快十二點半了,不行,我還是要洗澡洗頭髮跟做瑜伽,備課就繼續往後延,不能廢話碎碎念了,今天上課的學生蠻有進步的,超有成就感的,後天學生請假不用上課再來分享教學生自己做文法筆記的方式跟一些請學生去背的句子。先前請另外一個學生寫作文,寫出來的也比潔西預想的好,一整個開心。當老師的幸福成就感也就是在這裡,但是小小潑自己冷水一下,恩,這個潑冷水的故事跟英文就放到明天當明天的每日一句吧,買個關子,先晚安囉!

1 感嘆詞:用來表達強烈的情緒或驚訝,比方說 wow 哇!, ouch 好痛!, ew 噁心, yeah 耶

HOW 問題練習解說 跟繼續碎碎念的小白鼠

小白鼠還有兩個星期就結束測試,對於潔西說自己吃到安慰劑,不然就是藥到現在才吃到才生效,醫生有點不以為然的表情,是沒有說出來什麼,大概覺得這個病人很難搞吧?哈哈,要保持良好關係。今天學生跟好都臨時請假,下雨天大家都很忙,潔西就剛好悠哉悠哉地在家打打字,看看書,看看影片,發發呆。下面把昨天上的 WH 問題練習,比較閒,就寫了解釋,很多人還是弄不清楚,其實真的沒有很難,只是不少人有時候不同的語言,只聽到一部分,所以很一下子腦袋很難轉過來吧?

今天覺得時間過得很慢,早上在十點鬧鐘還沒到的時候就起來了,很懶惰的在床上混很久,九點多起來吧。一起來又頭痛了,這種天氣真的很容易頭痛,一直懶得吃藥,因為沒有很痛,前幾天才吃過英明格,頭痛太久了,大概就會有感覺這個頭痛需不需要吃藥,不過剛剛還是吃了止痛藥 EVE ,有次學生拿出來給潔西吃,居然有效,小痛可以,偏頭痛止不了,然後剛剛又吃了三片黑巧克力,好像比較好一點了,哪個的效果不知,但是巧克力會引起咳嗽馬上見效。

這幾天其實有點小放空,這種天氣居然沒有天氣不好已經很奇蹟了,剛剛還把衣服洗了,把地掃過拖過,把發音講義整理過,把一些該丟的講義都整理了一下,效率奇佳。然後居然晚上還炒飯來吃,自己一邊吃還一邊覺得好好吃的炒飯喔,隨便炒炒就這麼好吃,前兩天上課也很開心,下雨天,七個人,三個人,一樣都上得很開心,躁期莫名其妙的自信心真的站在一旁看覺得真好笑。大概做什麼都會覺得自己做得很好的不正常自信吧?好想沒寫過耶,來寫一下躁期的徵狀好了。潔西是 Bioplar Disorder II 輕燥,至少醫生那天是這麼說。美國的 MINH 列了下面的徵狀。

潔西現在沒那麼誇張,但是心情不錯,同時想做一百件事沒錯,會有 racing thoughts 很多想法在腦海裡一直轉轉轉,睡不著是很正常,不吃藥的話大概就摸摸摸到天明。不會很誇張,但是就會突然往上拉一個層級,因為物極必反,上星期差不多跌到谷底了,然後就上來了,就這樣。看小說,這次運氣不錯,借到好像蠻好看的小說。看書去。晚安:)

1 How much do you earn?   

第一題的 earn 是賺錢的賺,有助動詞 do,欠的是 WH 疑問詞,有同學說 What do you earn? 你賺什麼?當然是錢囉。Where do you earn? 問了可能被打,也不合理,所以就是 How much do you earn? 你賺多少錢?這可不能隨便亂問的喔,非常不禮貌,不過台灣大概過年的時候長輩很喜歡問。

2 Are you married? Yes, I’m married. 

你結婚了嗎?這裡 married 是形容詞,不是動詞的過去式,所以不能用 do,用 have 也不好。所以只能用 Are,用 Were 也不好,Were you married? 你結過婚嗎?所以也不要說  I was married. 喔,假如你是已婚人士的話。

3 How long have you been studying English? I have been studying English for 20 years.

你唸英文唸多久了?這題的話因為有 have 助動詞,所以是 WH疑問詞,後面是現在完成進行式,現在完成進行式常常用來表達一段時間,所以 How long 是最好,假如我知道你最近一直在學英文,不知道在哪裡, Where have you been studying English? 你在哪裡學英文?也是可以。其他都不OK.

4 Which do you prefer, small towns or big cities?

你比較喜歡哪一個,小鎮還是大都市? 這邊有兩個選擇所以用的是which,what 用在範圍比較大的時候,which 的話比較小範圍,或幾個之間的選擇。

5 How often do you go to the movies in a year?

你一年去看電影幾次?有學生用 How many times do you go to the movies? 也可以。因為後面有 in a year 一年中,所以不能用 Where, When 等字。

6 How tall are you?  I’m 1 meter 65.

你多高?問身高這邊大概只能用 How 吧!問體重想知道嗎? How much do you weigh? 你多重?這潔西超愛問…比較熟的人就可以問 Do you mind if I ask you a personal question? 不介意的話,就說 No, not at all. 通常對方會直接說不介意,小心點的會說看你的問題是什麼?

7 What religion are you?  I’m a Christian./ Catholic / Buddhist / Daoist / Jew / Muslim

你是什麼宗教?這邊用 which 好像也可以啦。上面 Christian 基督教徒,Catholic 天主教徒,Buddhist 佛教徒,Daoist 道教徒,Jew 猶太教徒,Muslim 回教徒。假如你沒有宗教信仰的話就可以說 I’m not religious. 。宗教的問題也不是個好話題喔。

8 Do you want to have children?

你想要有想小孩嗎?這裡有動詞了,所以前面需要助動詞,現在簡單式用 do 來幫忙 you 照問句。這也不甘大多人的事,雖然大家很愛問,尤其結婚很久沒生小孩的人。人家要嗎就是不想生,不然就是生不出來,反正都不要問最好。

9 What kind of music do you listen to? I listen to classical music. 我聽古典音樂。

你聽什麼樣的音樂? 因為有 of ,所以前面是名詞 What kind/What type 都可以。

10 Whose advice do you listen to most?

這題對的人很少。 advice 是名詞,你聽忠告,忠告名詞前面假如說用 What 什麼忠告你最聽從,很奇怪,其他都不對,你最聽誰的忠告?用 Whose 才對。

11 Have you ever said “I love you” and not meant it?

你曾經說過「我愛你」但不是真心的嗎?這裡看到 ever 跟動詞第三態過去分詞大概可以猜得出來是完成式,問的是經驗。所以用現在完成式,用 Have 造問句。

12 Who did you vote for in the last election?

你上次投票投給誰?這裡有 vote for 是像片語差不多了,投票不會投給什麼,除非有什麼不同的選舉,所以這裡是 Who 誰。

13 How well do you protect your skin form the sun?

你多保護你的肌膚不受太陽的傷害?

14 How happy are you with your health?

你對你的健康有多開心?

15 How much coffee do you drink in a week?

你一星期喝多少咖啡?

16 How often do you eat read meat?

你多常吃紅肉?

17 How long do you spend on the computer ever week?

你每星期花在電腦上多少時間?

18 How many times a day do you wash your hands?

你一天洗幾次你的手?

下面是解釋到 what 跟 who 這兩個疑問詞當主詞的時候,是當作第三人稱單數,而且因為他就是主詞了,所以不會把疑問詞放到主詞前面,就直接照直述句的句型。

Where are you from?

When is your birthday?

Who did you go to the movies with? 

Who cooked dinner for you last night? 

Who is taking a shower? 

Who are you taking a shower with? 受

What happened? 主

What’s happened? 主

繼續寫點關於 how 的問題,how 的問題真的可以有很多耶,不過常見的就那幾個,運用太廣了,可以接在形容詞跟副詞後面,也可以單獨存在, How do you like your job? 超多人回答不出來,其實台灣人不會問你如何喜歡你的工作,但是外國人就會啊!是英文的文法不同,有你覺得你的工作如何,不能回答 Yes 跟 No 喔。

How often do you go to the gym?  Three or four days a week.

你多常去健身房?一星期三四次。

How often 用來問頻率。 always, usually, sometimes 這些頻率放在一般動詞的前面。但是 once a month, twice a year, three times a week 則放在最後面。

(alway, usually, sometimes, rarely, never, once a month, twice a year)

How long do you spend at the gym?  About an hour.

花多久的時間在健身房?大約一小時。

How long 用來問時間。問某人某件事花多久時間,比方說公司到家裡搭車花多久時間, How long does it take? 主詞這邊很多人會用 I ,其實應該要用 it 喔。

How well do you follow your diet?  Not very well.

你多遵守你的飲食規則?不是很遵守。

How well 問程度,做到多好的意思,注意 well 是副詞所以要修飾動詞,假如要修飾名詞則要用形容詞 How good ,比方說 How good are you at sports? 運動多行的意思。well 問就用副詞 well 回答, good 問就用形容詞 good 或 bad 回答。

(very well, pretty well, about average, not very well)

How healthy are your eating habits? Somewhat health.

你的飲食習慣有多健康?有些健康。

How healthy 這就是 how 隨便亂加,馬上想到 How stupid are you? 生氣的時候罵人家你有多笨?其實是指對方是個大笨蛋的意思。 How 後面可以加名詞,形容詞都可以,表達程度。

How many meals do you eat a day?  Five small meals.

你一天吃幾餐?五小餐。

How many 用來問數量,而且一定是問可數名詞。答案可以是數量詞,或是可數的數量詞,像 a few 等。

How much sleep do you get?  Quite a bit.

你說睡多少?蠻多的。

How much 只能加不可數的名詞,所以答案不太會有數量,除非是用容器或計量單位去數。或不可數的數量詞。

(a lot, about average, very little)

(a lot, quite a bit, a little, not very much, not at all) + v

上面這些詞用來休市動詞

被動語態講解與練習題的影片

剛好被問到有沒有被動的影片,沒有,下午剛好同學請假,有多的時間,其實還想睡的,不過還是做個影片,晚上再睡好了,星期六日的課還可以拖一下,之後再備。不過不知為何覺得講得有點口齒不清,因為原先有做好的講義,照著講義講,其實被動沒有很難,只是需要原本就對時態很清楚,時態沒記清楚的話,換成被動就更難懂了,可是時態非常清楚的話,改被動只要把動詞改成 be 動詞再加上過去分詞這樣代換而已,真的沒有很難。多多練習其實就會駕輕就熟了。

然後這部落格真的沒轍,格式怎麼樣都會跑掉,所以看影片會比較清楚。看完之後可以自己做一下潔西下面另外造的,影片沒有的。就是把魯夫塑造成貪吃鬼,恩,他本來就是,被一塊肉就可以釣走,哈哈。總之這個句子是主動:魯夫吃我的巧克力。被動:我的巧克力被魯夫吃了。用這個句子造出主動跟被動的現在簡單,現在進行,現在完成,過去簡單,過去進行,過去完成,未來簡單,未來完成式的句子。也可以找幾個類似的句子,把每個時態都練習過,多換幾個動詞,多練習,應該就會很熟悉了,其實時態真的就是加法加一加,把必要的元素都加進去就對了喔!

好累,前面是直撥的,直播到一半網路怪怪的,後面練習題就用影片錄。有問題可以再提出來。對了,一般而言被動只有這八個時態會用,另外四個時態很少在用被動,多半用主動的方式。

英文的句子焦點多放在主詞上

1 主動句型:強調的是人,老鼠

Millions of people read the magazine. (The focus is on the people.)

2 被動句型:強調的是雜誌,起士

The magazine is read by millions of people. (The focus is on the

magazine.)

O         be   V3 by.     S

非必要時,英語多用主動句型來表達,主動句型用的比被動多得多

 

B 被動語態使用的時機

1 當做該行為動作的人未知或不重要時,使用被動語態。

The magazine was founded in 2008. (I don’t know who founded it.)

 

2 當從上下文中可以清楚地得知做該行為動作的人或事物。

The magazine was sold at newsstands. (We can assume that the newsstand owners and employees sell it. We don’t need to mention them.)

 

3 當想要避免提到做該行為動作的人時。

Some mistakes were made in that article. (I know who made the mistakes, but I don’t want to blame the person who made them.)

 

4 被動語態比較常用在書寫,口語也可以用,相對來說比較少。

Payment can be made at any post office.

Cars left here will be towed away.

 

5 被動語態也常用在新聞報導

A number of political prisoners have been released.

Talks will be held in London next week.

 

C 主動改被動

主動的句型:主詞+動詞+受詞   S + V + O

被動的句型:原受詞+時態(be+V3)+by+原主詞. fO + be + V3 + by +fS

 

改被動時,

1 把受詞跟主詞的位置互換,原受詞變成新的句子的主詞

2 動詞依時態不同,把主要動詞的部分改成be加上過去分詞V3

3 再加上by與上原主詞,變成新的受詞。

4 注意主詞跟受詞交換後,需依新的主詞對動詞作適當的變化。

Farmers grow corn.

Corn is grown by famers.

David helped me.

V.       O

I was helped by David.

fO be V3 by     fS

David helped them.

They were helped by David.

 

D 被動時態使用by+做該行為動作的人或事物的時機

使用被動語態時常常會省略掉做行為動作的人事物,因為英文句子強調的是主詞,可以直接用主動時態,但是在某些狀況下用被動會把該人事物提出

1 當你要表達這是某人的創作

The article was written by Jessie Lin.

“Romeo and Juliet” was written by William Shakespeare.

“Both Sides Now” was sung and written by Joni Mitchell.

 

2 當做該動作的人事物是令人感到訝異的

Our windows are washed by a robot.

The cake was eaten by a mouse!

 

3 當你要介紹做動作的人事物的必要新資訊時

John Delgado is a famous sports writer. He has just been hired by National Sports to write a monthly column. (The name of John’s employer is necessary new information.

 

E 及物動詞與非及物動詞.   S + V.   Time flies.   S + V + O.   I love dogs.

英文的動詞可以分為及物動詞與非及物動詞,只有及物動詞的句型才可以改被動。不及物因為沒有受詞,所以不可以改被動。

1 及物動詞:動詞後面一定要接受詞,必須有接受這個動作的對象的受詞。

Andy bought those flowers.

Those flowers were bought by Andy.

Betty sold those clothes.

Those clothes were sold by Betty.

 

2 非及物動詞:在動詞後面不可以接受詞。動詞只可以單獨存在。

Cathy smiles all the time.

Something happened.

He laughed at me.

 

F 被動的句型

被動的要素是be + V3。被動一定會有be動詞跟動詞的第三態,過去分詞。依時態不同會有所改變。

1 肯定句:時態不變,把主要動詞按時態帶入be+V3

It is written in nineteen languages.

It has just been printed.

 

2 否定句:時態不變,找出改完被動後句子中的助動詞,後面加not。

These computers aren’t produced anymore.

Scotch whiskey isn’t made in England.

 

3 疑問句:時態不變,找出改完被動後句子中的助動詞,放到主詞前面。

When is breakfast served in this hotel?

Where was the car repaired?

【潔西家】文章的概念結構 第一部分 三種子句 第二部分 八大詞性

潔西非常用力地想要讓大家對於英文的句子文法的基礎架構有點概念,可是說來話好長,每次不知不覺就講了一個多小時,不過這樣比較詳細簡單易懂,自己安慰自己,哈哈哈,能看完的人真的很厲害。不過文章看不完,影片看得玩或聽得完的人應該有,因為不少人視聽覺學習的,用聽的還比較有效啊!

 

第一篇蠻誇張的,是吃了安眠藥上床睡覺後,不知怎麼睡不著又爬起來,早上起來還有點點印像,剛剛看一下部分,蝦米,有說過的話很多都沒印象,所以有錯誤的話再請提出,潔西有時間再去聽聽看,不過潔西吃安眠藥都能做義大利麵做比司吉了,應該還可以,不過真的很恐怖,沒辦法控制,所以睡前還是吃飽一點比較安全啊!

 

趕出門上課去,第二部分的答案等講第三部份五大句型的時候再補囉。

 

第一部分 三種子句

英文寫作,用英文寫 email 難嗎?恩,是真的沒有那麼簡單,但是也沒有那麼難,抓住一些 重點的話。

潔西的教學改寫作的經驗這麼多年下來覺得除了單字不足中式英文外,最大的問題應該是句

型跟邏輯的問題。邏輯?沒錯,就是邏輯。

 

下面廢話後面潔西把英文文章組合的整體大概念跟基本的句子,潔西盡量用口語能懂的方式

解釋了一下句型做一個簡單整理介紹,後面有一點練習,老王潔西自己覺得還蠻有用的,哈

哈,花了蠻多時間整理的,有空可以看一下。這是比較簡單的,更詳細的說明有空會再寫。

星期一的垃圾文提早了,因為等等要去看醫生,哈哈。

句型的話很多人對於英文的基本句型完全沒有概念,想要怎麼寫就寫,把想表達的意思用中 式英文寫,然後單字就直接去找中翻英的英文,完全沒管找到的那個字的詞性或用法,寫出 來真的是會很可怕的句子,恩,不可怕啦,只是人家看不懂XD

邏輯的話就是西方人是線性思考,尤其是寫作的時候,一樣一樣推斷,因為 A,所以 B, C,結論是 D。類似這樣,不過台灣人很常就是直接從A跳到D,省略中間很多東西,所以 讀者會根本不知道你要表達的是什麼,寫作很重要的一點事要從讀者的觀點來看文章,但是 很多人只是從自己的角度,你覺得應該別人會懂得,別人不一定會懂,跳得太快太遠了,常 常。

Where and how did you spend your New Year’s Eve?    I stayed home and did nothing.

How was your weekend?    I went to see a movie.

另外答非所問,比方說潔西問學生說上個週末過得如何?學生回答去看電影。這沒有回答到 問題大家有發現嗎? How was your weekend? 過得好?還是不好?開心?不開心?看電影 是你做的事,可能好看開心也可能不好看不開心。諸如此類的。

然後最最最重要的就是,當你要寫,或說一個英文句子的時候,麻煩不要直接用中翻英的句

子,要想想該怎麼樣把想要表達的意思套進英文句型寫出來。英文句型那麼多怎麼套?其實

英文句型沒有想像的複雜,最基本的句型記起來後,在做適當的連結,就可以把想要表達的

意思用正確的英文句子說出來了。

上星期代課講到的是連接詞,連接句子,這也是很多人的痛處,很多人寫文章都是一個句子

一個句子,沒有表達出中間的連貫性,文章就會單調乏味。

下面是潔西教寫作的時候整理的至少應該要知道的英文的基本句型,後面有點練習,可以參

考一下。真心覺得這學好英文的人一定要記住。

寫作的時候想想一篇文章的元素究竟是什麼呢?從最簡單的字母,幾個字母合成一個單字,

兩個以上的單字就組成片語,把一些單字適當組合,當中有主詞,動詞,跟其他必要部分就

可以成為子句,子句本身也可以是一個句子,或者把幾個子句合併成句子。然後幾個句子合

己來變成一個段落。一個段落可以就是一篇文章,但是也可以把幾個段落合併在一起變成一

篇文章。就這樣,簡單嗎?哈哈。不太難吧!

下面解釋一下 1 字母 letter

英文有二十六個"字母" ,如”w”,潔西上課的冷笑話都是問學生英文有幾個字母,26?不 對,是24,為什麼?因為 ET 回家了,哈哈,好冷。不過前天學生很可愛說,老師是21個 啦,因為 UFO 也走了,哈哈,上課真開心。

2 單字 word一個或一個以上的字母組合就形成單字,如”a”, “walk”。記一個單字的時候一定要連詞性用法一起記,背再多單字不會用都沒用,所以與其被一堆單字,還不如多記片語跟句子。

我怕狗。 I afraid dog. (X)   I am afraid of dogs.    我喜歡咖啡。 I like coffee.

3 片語 phrase

兩個以上單字形成片語,有動詞片語、名詞片語、形容詞片語、副詞片語與介系詞片語等。 非常好用,不過不用死背,看到一個記一個,去背一整本片語書背完還是忘光的。片語 如“walk around”, “my friends”, “very spicy”, “very quickly”, “on the corner”

I’m thinking of you.  我在想你。

look for 尋找   I’m looking for a job. 我正在找工作。

look down on someone 看不起

look up on someone  尊重

generation gap 代溝

4 子句 clause:

當一些字中有一組主詞與動詞與其他必要部分的時候就叫一個子句。

because I can’t sleep

子句有分獨立子句跟非獨立子句:

a 獨立子句可以單獨存在

I can’t sleep. 我睡不著。

非獨立子句就像寄生蟲一樣,哈哈,一定要寄生在別人身上才活得下去,恩,就是必須搭配上獨子子句才能表達完整的語意,才能變成一個句子。

because i can’t sleep

I am streaming because I can’t sleep.

a 獨立子句 independent clause: 一些字當中有主詞,有動詞,語義完整。獨立子句本身表達一個完整的概念,能夠單獨存在

寫成一個句子。獨立子句如下:

I have the money. 我有錢。It’s not my fault. 這不是我的錯。

b 非獨立子句 dependent clause: 一些字當中有主詞,有動詞,但語意不完整,無法單獨成為一個完整的句子,需要依靠一個 主要子句來表達完整的語意。

非獨立子句如下 When I have the money 當我有錢的時候

Even though it was not my fault 雖然這不是我的錯 然後呢?

上面兩句的意思都不完整,需要再加上獨立子句才能成為一個句子。

When I have the money, I’ll buy a new Mac.  當我有錢的時候,我要去買一個新的筆電。

Even though it was not my fault, my boss fired me. 雖然這不是我的錯,我的老闆還是開除了我。

而在英文又有三種非獨立子句,這三種子句學生常常會單獨寫出來,其實是錯誤的,他們一

定要跟獨立子句結合才會成為一個完整的句子,表達正確的語意。

b1 名詞子句 noun clausethat Jon Snow will be the king 這就不是個完整的句子

名詞子句整個子句用來當名詞用,可以當主詞,受詞,或補語。 如:that Jon Snow will be the king 這是一個名詞子句,雖然有主詞有動詞,看起來語意感覺也完整,但是他的前面有 一個 that ,這個 that 本身沒有意義,但是因為有加上that,所以就不是完整的句子,但是 Jon Snow will be the king. 就是個完整的句子。

I think that Jon Snow will be the king. 我認為 Jon Snow 會當國王。

這才是一個完整的句子。 that Jon Snow will be the king 整個當名詞用,成為 think 的受詞用。

That the earth is round is true. 地球是圓的這件事是真的。

I don’t know where he lives. 我不知道他住在哪裡。

b2形容詞子句 adjective clause

who made the mess 有人弄得一團糟,也不是個完整的句子

形容詞子句是整個子句當形容詞用,用來修飾名詞。who made the mess,這就是個形容詞 子句,他的語意是不完整的,中文可能覺得語意完整啊,但是英文這樣的句子是不完整的, 所以呢要改成

The person who made the mess needs to clean it.

弄得一團糟的人需要去清理。這樣才是個完整的句子,而當中的 who made the mess 用來修飾前面的那個人 person。

The present I received yesterday is from Australia.

b3 副詞子句 adverb clause

If you were having an affair 假如你有外遇的話,這個子句語意不完整

副詞子句是整個字句當作副詞用,用來修飾表達跟主要子句之間的關係。如:If you were having an affair 假如你有外遇的話,這個子句語意不完整,這只是個條件,在這個條件下 會怎麼樣呢?

If you were having affair, I would kill you.

假如你有外遇的話,我就會殺了你。 好可怕的恐怖情人大家要小心啊!不過這樣子的結合就變成了一個完整的句子了。 if you were having an affair 就是個副詞子句,表示在這條件下會有什麼狀況。 所以上面這三個名詞子句,形容詞子句,副詞子句都不會單獨存在,但是卻很常看到同學寫這樣的句子啊,請記住,他們都是寄生蟲,一定要找到適合的寄生對象啊!

Because I am hungry. (X)

When I get home. (X)

Because I’m hungry, I’m going to have instant noodles. 因為我餓了,所以我要去吃泡麵。

When I get home, my dog brings me my slippers. 當我回到家的時候,我的狗幫我拿拖鞋。

 

第二部分八大詞性

八大詞類( the parts of speech) 要學好英文,詞性非常重要。學到一個新單字的時候要先注意它的詞性,不同詞性的用法可 能不同,適用於不同句型的句子。千萬不可以只是中翻英。翻譯這兩個句子:

他對小孩子沒耐心。 He has no patience with kids. / He is not patient with kids.

我對英文很有興趣。 I’m interested in English. / I have an interest in English.

English is interesting. 英文很有趣。

He is allergic to peanuts. / He has an allergy to peanuts. 他對花生過敏。

每個英文單字都可以歸類為英文的八大詞類之一。同一個字可能有好幾種不同的詞性。如:

Love is in the air. 愛在空中。與 I love you. 這兩個句子中love 分別是名詞與動詞。同一個字的詞性不 同時,意義也可能不同。如:在The exam was really hard.中這個句子的hard是形容詞, 表示困難的。work hard, play hard這個片語的hard是副詞,表示程度上很努力地做某事。 所以記單字時要一併把詞性跟用法記住才能寫出與說出正確的句子。

八大詞類( the parts of speech) 分別是動詞,名詞,代名詞,形容詞,副詞,連接詞,介系詞跟感歎詞。

  1. 動詞 (verbs):

用來描述一個動作或狀態的字。在英文當中可說是最重要也最困難的。一般放在主詞的 後面。英文用動詞來表達時態,主動被動。動詞主要分三種。

  1. 行為動詞:用來表達主詞的行為或動作。又可分

(a.)不及物動詞 intransitive verb 不及物動詞表達主詞所作的動作,後面不需要受詞。

Time flies. 時光飛逝。

Time flies when you’re having fun.
當你很開心的時候時間就過得很快。

My father shaves. 我爸爸刮鬍子。

My father shaves every morning before he goes to work. 我爸爸每天早上上班前刮鬍子。

(b.)及物動詞 transitive verb 及物動詞把主詞的動作轉移到另外一個名詞,也就是受詞的身上,所以及物動詞後 面一定有一個接受動作的受詞。有些特別的動詞(授與動詞)會有兩個受詞。

He bought a diamond engagement ring.
他買了一個訂婚鑽戒

He bought a diamond engagement ring for his girlfriend last night.

他昨天晚上買了一個訂婚鑽戒給他的女朋友。

Tim ate three hamburgers.
提姆吃了三個漢堡。

Tim ate three hamburgers because he was very hungry. 提姆吃了三個漢堡,因為他非常餓。

 

Do you have a dog? 你有狗嗎? Yes, I have. (X) Yes, I have a dog. Yes, I do.

Have you eaten French food? 你吃過法國料理嗎? Yes, I have. / Yes, I have eaten French food.

Do you like cats? 你喜歡貓嗎?  Yes, I like. (X) Yes, I like cats/them. Yes, I do.

 

  1. 連綴動詞 linking verb 連綴動詞經常用來表達狀態,或一些小動作,比方說 be 動詞,感官動詞。連綴動詞把主詞動詞後面的主詞補語連 接在一起。主詞補語通常是名詞或形容詞。主詞補語為名詞時,會等於主詞。主詞補 語為形容詞是用來修飾主詞。

I’m Jessie. My name is Jessie. I’m heavy. 我很胖。

I feel sick. 我覺得不舒服。  I don’t feel comfortable. (?) 我不舒服。 I don’t feel well.

You look tired. 你看起來很累。

My mother is a housewife. 我媽媽是家庭主婦。

  1. 助動詞 auxiliary verb 助動詞與主要動詞合併起來成為一個動詞片語,用來表達時態或語態等。 The band is coming to Taiwan next month.
那個樂團下個月要來台灣。現在進行式

He didn’t go to school yesterday.
他昨天沒去上課。過去式

I can’t swim. 我不會游泳。

May I help you? 我可以幫你嗎?

 

動詞: 動詞的四個面貌:動詞依時態不同會有不同的面貌

1 Present (V1) 動詞原型:

I work from nine to five.
我朝九晚五。現在簡單式,不定詞 to 的後面。

I eat an apple every morning. 我每天早上吃一顆蘋果。

 

2 Past (V2) 動詞過去式

I worked late last night.
我昨天晚上加班。 Work overtime 加班 過去簡單式

I ate an apple this morning. 我今天早上吃一顆蘋果。

 

3 Past Participle (V3) 動詞過去分詞:

I have worked hard.
我一直以來工作勤奮。現在完成式。過去完成式,未來完成,被動。

I have eaten a lot today. 我今天吃好多啊。

An apple is eaten by me every day. 我每天早上吃一顆蘋果。

Romeo and Juliet was written by Shakespeare. 羅密歐與茱麗葉是莎士比亞寫的。

 

4 Present Participle (V-ing) 動詞現在分詞:

I am working now. 我正在工作。

I was eating lunch at this time yesterday. 昨天這個時候我正在吃午餐。

I afraid dog. (X)  I’m afraid of dogs. 我怕狗。

  1. 名詞 (nouns):名詞用來表達人、事、物、地等。英文句子的構成要件就是主詞跟動詞。 名詞用來當主詞、受詞與補語。名詞當主詞時放在句首,當受詞與補語時放在動詞後 面。主詞一定要是名詞,所以當要表達的字是動詞時,必須把動詞加上 ing 成為動名詞或 加上不定詞 to。名詞可以接在其他詞類後形成片語。只有形容詞才可以用來修飾名詞。 如:Peter, Taipei, table, truth..等。

He is a hardworking student. 他是個努力的學生。

He plays basketball good. (x)  He plays basketball well. 他籃球打得很好。

He is a good basketball player. 他籃球打得很好。

Albert is a nice guy. 亞伯特是個好人。

Barack Obama is the current President of the United States. 歐巴馬是現任美國總統。

Baking and swimming are my hobbies. 烘焙跟游泳是我的興趣。

Playing online game is fun. 打線上遊戲很好玩。

 

  1. 代名詞 (pronouns):是用來取代名詞的字。前面已經提過的名詞或是說話的人彼此都知 
道的名詞都可用代名詞代替。主要是避免重複。用法與主詞雷同。 如:you, him, herself, everyone, this, which, what…等。

Where does your father work? He works in China. 你父親在哪裡工作?他在大陸工作。

Will you give me your name and phone number?你願意給我你的名字跟電話號碼嗎?

My father is very tall. He’s one meter 85. 我爸很高。他一百八十五公分。

  1. 形容詞 (adjectives):用來形容、描述、說明一個名詞或代名詞。形容詞多放在修飾的名詞前或放在連綴動詞後。用時注意形容詞有表達正面的跟表達負面的形容詞,另外有比較級,有最高級。如:hot, Taiwanese, her, that, some, whose…

aggressive 有野心的 talkative 愛講話的,awesome 超讚,awful 超爛

The most popular Taiwanese drink is probably pearl milk tea.

台灣最熱門的飲料大概是珍珠奶茶。

The coffee tastes bitter. 那咖啡很苦。

  1. 副詞 (adverbs):用來修飾動詞、形容詞,副詞,或整個句子,表達程度,次數,頻率 等等。副詞不可以修飾名詞。副詞的移動性很高,常放在動詞後,形容詞前,也可放句首或句尾。不同的副詞按照強調的部分不同,可放不同地方,意義也會有所不同。頻率副詞多放一般動詞前,be動詞後。 
如:always, usually, sometimes, quickly, late, very…等。

I always get up early.  我總是早起。

I’m always late. 我總是遲到。

Fortunately, she won the lottery. 很幸運地,她贏了彩卷。

It’s appropriate not to take your shoes off at the door.

not為副詞,修飾to take your shoes off at the door,意思是在門口不脫鞋是恰當的。

在有些國家,鞋子可以直接穿進屋子裡,所以在門口不用脫鞋子,這是合宜的做法。

It’s not appropriate to take your shoes off at the door.
not 為副詞,修飾appropriate,意思是在門口脫鞋是不恰當的。

在台灣,可以在門口脫鞋子,可是在有些國家,把門口把鞋子脫掉卻是不合宜的做法。

It’s okay not to take medicine. 不吃藥沒關係。

It’s not OK to take medicine. 吃藥是不可以的。

 

  1. 連接詞 (conjunctions):用來連接單字 (words)、片語 (phrases)或子句 (clauses)。注 意連接詞所連接的詞性必須一致。
  2. 對等連接詞 coordinating conjunctions :and,but,for,or,yet,so
  3. 從屬連接詞 subordinating conjunctions: if, before, because, when
  4. 關係連接詞 correlative conjunctions :either…or, neither…nor, both…and, whether…or, not only…but also

It was raining, but they still went to the park. 雖然下雨了,他們還是去公園。.

Although John was sick, he still went to work. 雖然約翰生病了,但是他還是去工作。

He’s the kind of person you either love or hate. 他是那種你要嘛就喜歡不然就討厭的人。

  1. 介係詞 (prepositions):用來表達兩件事物的關係,如位置、方向、空間、時間或因果等。後面一定要加名詞,代名詞或動名詞結合成介係詞片語。 如:about, around, in, on, of, under, with, between, for… 等。

He arrived in London on Sunday morning. 他在星期天早上抵達倫敦。

I get up at 7 o’clock from Monday to Friday 星期一到星期五,我七點起床。

I’m looking forward to seeing you. 我很期待見到你。 (O)

  1. 感嘆詞 (interjections):用來表達強烈的情緒或驚訝。 如:oh, wow, yeah, ouch…等。

Oh! I didn’t know that was you. 喔!我不知道那是你。

Wow! It’s unbelievable. 哇!真是不可思議。

Ouch! You stepped on my foot!好痛!你踩到我的叫了。

Crowded 擁擠的  Don’t push me. 別推我。

閱讀下列短文,寫出每個詞性的前三個字,不要重複。

Tom thinks Mary is wonderful. He loves her madly, and he dreams of marrying her, but unfortunately he is too old for her. Today they are at a café with their friends Mandy and Jack, so Tom can’t get romantic with Mary.
